Zack Snyder & Jay Olivia partner up for new anime series on Netflix

Zack Snyder, the man behind Justice League, Man of Steel and Watchmen is partnering up with longtime collaborator, Jay Oliva, for a new anime Netflix series. The two of them boast a considerable partnership, working together on 300: Rise of an Empire, Batman v. Superman and Justice League to name a few.

However, Oliva will be at the helm as showrunner and director, while Snyder will be the executive director. Snyder’s wife, Deborah, will alongside Wesley Coller produce the series through their production company, Stone Quarry Animation. According to Variety, the anime series will be based on Norse Mythology, though that is all that has been revealed thus far.

This will be Snyder’s second venture with Netflix, the first being Army of the Dead, which he is currently in production with that will star Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy). This will be Snyder’s first film since Justice League in 2017, after stepping down as director due to the tragic passing of his daughter. Oliva is also busy in production with another anime series for Netflix, called Trese.

I’m a gigantic fan of ancient history in general, especially history that focuses on Gods that can quite literally pass for the next great superhero team. With that being said anything to do with Norse Mythology gets my spine tingling, so I am really looking forward to seeing what Snyder and Oliva can cook up. This will also be Snyder’s first ever TV project to add to his impressive collection of movies, so I am sure he would be looking to knock his debut out the park.

The series will definitely have plenty of competition as Netflix already has an impressive and established collection of anime series such as Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ultraman, Godzilla: The Planet Eater and Ghost in the Shell to name a few.
